Metric-to-imperial conversions in particular are full of "almost round" numbers (a mile isn't quite 1.6 km, it's 1.60934 km) that compound into meaningful errors over larger quantities. The margin of error from a rounded mental conversion might be negligible for a single measurement, but it adds up fast across a recipe scaled 10x, or a construction project measured in hundreds of feet.
