This gives you the theoretical minimum volume for a perfectly flat, perfectly formed slab — real pours never quite match that number. Uneven sub-base, minor formwork leakage, and normal spillage during leveling all use a bit more material than the math predicts, which is why contractors routinely order 5-10% more than the calculated volume rather than the bare figure. It's also worth double-checking your thickness is in the same unit as length and width before multiplying — mixing millimeters into a meters-based calculation is the single most common way a concrete estimate ends up wrong by a large, non-obvious factor.
