A parallelogram's area is base times height, the same as a rectangle, because you can slice a triangle off one end and slide it to the other to form exactly that rectangle. The catch is that the height must be the perpendicular distance between the parallel sides, not the length of the slanted side — using the slanted side is the classic mistake. Opposite sides being equal makes the perimeter simple, just twice the sum of two adjacent sides.
