Projectile motion splits neatly into two independent parts: horizontal motion at constant velocity, and vertical motion under gravity's constant pull. Ignoring air resistance, maximum range comes at a 45° launch angle, and the horizontal and vertical motions share the same flight time — which is why a bullet fired horizontally and one simply dropped hit the ground together. This idealized model omits drag, so real projectiles fall short of its predictions, especially light or fast ones.
