Time Subtraction Calculator

Subtract hours and minutes from a starting time.

Worth Knowing

Subtracting a duration from a time requires borrowing in base 60 — taking 40 minutes from 8:20 means borrowing an hour as 60 minutes, giving 7:40. Getting that borrow wrong is the usual source of error, along with times that cross back before midnight into the previous day. It's the calculation behind working out a departure time from a required arrival, or a start time from a deadline and an estimated duration.

How to Use

  1. Enter Start time into the first field of the Time Subtraction Calculator.
  2. Fill in the rest: Subtract hours, Subtract minutes.
  3. Your result appears instantly as you type — there's no submit button or page reload.
